Estate Strategy Group is made up of an experienced team of consultants with extensive management and executive backgrounds.

Mark Johnston-Wood MRICS FioD BSc

Managing Director

Mark is the Managing Director of Estate Strategy Group and has over 15 years senior level experience in the strategic management of estates and facilities. He has assisted a number of organisations in delivering their transformation and strategy, coordinating change management plans, developing management teams and planning for future capital and revenue programmes.

Mark has been a Trustee of the Salvation Army where he was responsible for their portfolio across the UK and has also directed the portfolios for Inner Temple, St Andrews Healthcare, Homerton NHS Trust, Wexham NHS Trust, Frimley Health and Queen Victoria NHS Trust. Other organisations Mark has supported at senior level include Care City, CDS (Bedfordshire), Eden futures, Disabilities Trust, East Area Health Service Network, North East London Foundation Trust, NHS National Services Scotland.

As Managing Director at Estate Strategy Group, Mark leads the team in analysing initial estate problems. Mark works closely with our clients to carry out what we call a root cause analysis. It’s from this data we offer options and proposals, test the appropriate solution and oversee its implementation.

David Gilbert Cmgr FCMI

Operations Director

David is the Operations Director for Estate Strategy Group, highly skilled in needs assessment, strategic and operational planning, leading organisational change and overall business development.

With over 25 years senior management experience, David has worked in six different service industries, in pressured environments, where both compliance and high performance are critical.

For the last 8 years, David has applied his operational and strategic skills and experience to the world of estates and facilities within both public and private sectors. At ESG, he brings clarity to the implementation of the solution. He helps our clients with prioritising and delegating facilities management tasks. He motivates and inspires teams to develop their portfolio and keep project momentum to ensure success. David is a structured, organised and energetic professional who operates with high integrity and honesty, making him an incremental asset to the group.

Trevor Seddon

Sustainability Solutions Director

Trevor has over 20 years’ experience in providing Sustainability solutions to the manufacturing and built environment sectors working for significant blue-chip clients including CBRE, Cushman and Wakefield, Barclays Bank, Deutsche Bank, The BBC and Phillips International. He can draw on knowledge acquired earlier in his career working in international markets managing the product introduction of multi-utility metering products and Energy Management Consulting, where he advised on the Management of Climate Change Agreements, EU & UK Emissions Trading Schemes and Environmental Permitting.

Trevor founded the Sustainability arm of Estate Strategy Group to focus on providing professional consultancy advice to clients on how a Sustainability Plan will both bolster bottom line results and improve Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) scores.

Some of the projects that Trevor has successfully led;

CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield – “Mobilisation and integration of Utility processes for these large Managing agents who were focussed on streamlining their utility processes to minimise overhead cost”
Property Investment Company – “Management of the mobilisation of a specialist utilities team to centralise all Utility management activities including procurement, energy management, bureau services into a single focussed delivery unit.”
Barclays Bank – “Introduced robust monitoring and targeting processes prior to introducing a successful global energy management program including a remote energy management platform.”
Deutsche Bank – “Introduced a successful Energy Management program and pioneered ‘Investment Grade audits & strategic methodology to obtain funding for strategic energy management projects.”
Energy for all metering program – South Africa – “Product management and support to the roll out of energy for all metering into Townships across South Africa, bringing reticulation solutions to areas without electricity.”

Dr Mike Sinclair FRICS

Assistant Project Director

Mike is the Assistant Project Director of Estate Strategy Group and has over 30 years senior level experience in the strategic management of estates and facilities. He has assisted a number of organisations in delivering their transformation and strategy, coordinating change management plans, developing management teams and planning for future capital and revenue programmes.

Mike has been a Director of Properties for The Post Office UK, where he was responsible for their portfolio across the UK and has also worked alongside Mark Johnston-Wood as assistant Director managing the portfolios for The Salvation Army UKT, St Andrews Healthcare, Homerton NHS Trust, and Queen Victoria NHS Trust.

As assistant Project Director at Estate Strategy Group, Mike is responsible as part of the team for delivery of a number of major projects.

Mike was responsible for the creation of the Green Guide to Specification, and as a result of his research working with the Building Research Establishment and Oxford Brookes University, he was awarded a PhD.

Phil Gilbert MBA, DMS

Assistant Director

Philip is the Assistant Director (Business Support) for Estate Strategy Group, highly skilled in strategic management, operational planning and analysis, performance management and business development, organisational culture, leading organisational change and securing business efficiencies through effective systems, procedures and technical solutions. Specialisms include business assurance, development of policies and procedures, framework submissions, training and consultancy, health and safety, risk and programme management.

With over 25 years senior management experience, Philip has worked in the public and private sectors in numerous service industries, operating in pressured environments, where both compliance and high performance are critical.

Philip has worked with ESG for a number of years and has supported the Directors in a number of significant contracts including the programme management of a £50m new HQ building in London, developing ESG’s state of the art BEACON Plus assessment tool and helping ESG attain gold status membership of Constructionline.

Chris Wells

Operations Manager

Chris is the Operations manager for Estate Strategy Group. He joined the team in February 2019 after spending the previous ten years working in a variety of positions in retail. It was through Chris’ work as an assistant manager that he gained experience in diligent compliance and learnt what success looks like operationally.

Chris thrives upon detail in planning and organisation, he supports the ESG team ensuring a high quality is delivered on time and to the client’s specification. Chris is studying to become a chartered surveyor and further developing his career in the industry.

Lauren Johnston-Wood

Marketing Manager

Lauren Johnston-Wood is the Marketing Manager for Estate Strategy Group. She studied for an Art Foundation course at Suffolk New College and Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University.

Lauren manages the social media, marketing and communications for Estate Strategy Group and is using her creative skills to help clients and staff understand the values and services that ESG offers.

Phil has a masters degree in environmental sustainability and 15 years’ experience as a consultant energy manager. Phil’s focus is helping customers reduce the carbon footprint of their buildings. He has helped a wide range of businesses be more environmentally friendly including Barclays, Deutsche Bank, CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield.

Accounts and Project Support

Kate has had a long career in administration in Local Government, Primary Health Care, Education and the private sector. She brings a wealth of experience and practicality to the Company. She supports our Finance Lead on our accounting system and provides project support as necessary.

Jeff Bartle

Estate Strategy Group

With an estates background covering over 30 years Jeff has a wealth of experience both in traditional estates maintenance and mental health environments. Having started his career as a marine engineer he moved in the 1980’s into estates management for the MOD across a number of UK sites. He worked for a period with WS Atkins as a works consultant (MOD) before moving to St Andrew’s Healthcare. Here he took on various roles including Design, Maintenance and Projects and was technical advisor to several key new build projects providing more than 700 new beds for the charity.

Jeff is also a Director on the Board of the Design in Mental Health Network.

Keith Manners FIoD, FCMI, DMS

Head of Customer Services

With over 35 years’ experience in senior leadership roles Keith joins the Estate Strategy Group as their Head of Customer Services.

For the past 10 years Keith has held the position of Trustee for a major international charity as well as being Property Director overseeing a large property portfolio throughout the United Kingdom with the Republic of Ireland.

His experience in overseeing a wide ranging property portfolio whilst attaining full compliance and value for money on property such as housing, office accommodation and large development schemes will provide Keith with a wealth of knowledge to further support ESG and its clients.
